UNPA-Kampagne bei Veranstaltung in Dar Es Salaam vorgestellt

Bei einer öffentlichen Veranstaltung im Courtyard Protea Hotel in Dar Es Salaa, Tanzania, wurde die Kampagne für ein UN-Parlament von Dr. Azaveli Lwaitama von der Universität von Dar Es Salaam und Generali Ulimwengu, Vorsitzender der Habari Corporation vorgestellt. Die Veranstaltung wurde von der lokalen Gruppe des Komitees für eine demokratische UNO in Tanzania organisiert. Unter den Teilnehmern war Teddy Louise Kasella-Bantu, Mitglied der Nationalversammlung und Unterstützer des UNPA-Aufrufs der Kampagne.

Public conference in Dar Es Salaam on UNPA Campaign

At a public conference convened at the Courtyard Protea Hotel in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, the Campaign for the Establishment of a UN Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA) was presented by Dr. Azaveli Lwaitama from the University of Dar Es Salaam and Generali Ulimwengu, Chairman of Habari Corporation. The event was organized by the Tanzanian Group of the Committee for a Democratic U.N. Among the participants was Teddy Louise Kasella-Bantu, Member of the National Assembly and supporter of the Campaign’s appeal for a UNPA.

Kampagnen-Start: In Madrid treffen sich Abgeordnete und NGOs

Am 27. April wurde die Kampagne für eine UNPA in Madrid gestartet. Initiiert wurde ein erstes Treffen von Abgeordneten und NGOs vom Sekretariat von UBUNTU: World Forum of Civil Society Networks und der World Campaign for In-Depth Reform of the System of International Institutions. Das UBUNTU-Forum versteht die UNPA als einen ersten Schritt auf dem Weg zu einer demokratischen und kohärenten Global Governance. Nach dem intensiven und erfolgreichen Treffen der spanischen Abgeordneten Fátima Aburto, Carles Campuzano, Laia Cañigueral, Toni Comin, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida, Aitor Esteban, Gaspar Llamazares, Josep Maldonado, Georgina Oliva, Jordi Pedret, Dolors Puig, Raül Romeva und Elena Valenciano sowie der NGO-Vertreter Federico Mayor Zaragoza (Stiftung Kultur des Friedens und UBUNTU-Stiftung), Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner (Club of Rome), Diego Hidalgo (Club de Madrid), Mario Esteban (Consejo de la Juventud de España) und José Moisés Martín (ACSUR-Las Segovias), stellte sich die Gruppe den Fragen von Journalisten.

Kampagne in Deutschland vorgestellt

Am 27. April wurde die Kampagne für die Einrichtung einer Parlamentarischen Versammlung bei den Vereinten Nationen in den Räumlichkeiten der Bundespressekonferenz in Berlin vorgestellt. Zu den Sprechern gehörten Andreas Bummel, Komitee für eine demokratische UNO, Detlef Dzembritzki, MdB und Vorsitzender des Unterausschusses Vereinte Nationen, Harald Leibrecht, MdB, und Christoph Zimmermann, Gesellschaft für bedrohte Völker.

Campaign launch: MPs, NGOs meet in Madrid

On 27 April the Campaign for the UNPA was launched in Madrid, hosted by the Secretariat of UBUNTU – World Forum of Civil Society Networks and of the World Campaign for In-Depth Reform of the System of International Institutions. The UBUNTU Forum understands that the UNPA is a first step, of a series, towards a democratic and coherent structure of global governance. Following an intense and fruitful meeting with Spanish MPs Fátima Aburto, Carles Campuzano, Laia Cañigueral, Toni Comin, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida, Aitor Esteban, Gaspar Llamazares, Josep Maldonado, Georgina Oliva, Jordi Pedret, Dolors Puig, Raül Romeva and Elena Valenciano as well as representatives of civil society groups such as Federico Mayor Zaragoza (Culture of Peace Foundation and UBUNTU Foundation), Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner (Club of Rome), Diego Hidalgo (Club de Madrid), Mario Esteban (Consejo de la Juventud de España), José Moisés Martín (ACSUR-Las Segovias), the group attended journalists in a press conference.

UNPA Campaign launched in Berlin

On 27 April the Campaign for the Establishment of a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA) was presented to the German public at the "Federal Press Conference" venue in Berlin. The panelists included Andreas Bummel, Committee for a Democratic U.N., Detlef Dzembritzki, MP and Chair of the Sub-Committee on United Nations Affairs in the German Bundestag, Harald Leibrecht, MP, and Christoph Zimmermann, Society for Threatened Peoples.

Kampagne in Vancouver gestartet

Die Ortsgruppen des World Federalist Movement Canada und der kanadischen Gesellschaft für die Vereinten Nationen in Vancouver haben bei einer Veranstaltung in den Räumen der Stadtbibliothek die Kampagne für eine UNPA der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Auf dem Podium waren die ehemaligen Abgeordneten Ian Waddell und Simma Holt, sowie Adriane Carr, Vize-Vorsitzende der kanadischen Grünen und der Professor Leonard Angel. Für die Gastgeber waren Blake McLeod und Patsy George anwesend. An die Präsentation schloß sich eine lebendige Diskussion mit zahlreichen Fragen an. Abgerundet wurde die Veranstaltung mit einem anschließenden Empfang.

Campaign launch in Vancouver

The World Federalist Movement Canada Vancouver Branch and the United Nations Association Canada–Vancouver hosted the launch of the movement for the creation of a UNPA on April 24 2007. This was at the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library. Panelists were Ian Waddell (former MP, NDP), Simma Holt (former MP Liberal), Adriane Carr (Green Party, Deputy Leader), and Leonard Angel (Professor). The hosts were Blake McLeod for the WFMC-VB, and Patsy George for the UNAC. There was a lively panel for about forty minutes, and vigorous questions and answers afterwards for about the same time period. A variety of media were present, with film, audio, and print coverage. After the panel and question period there was a reception, with lots of active conversation.

Kampagnen-Auftakt: Abgeordnete und Aktivisten fordern Parlamentarische Versammlung bei der UNO

Mehrere hundert Politiker und Aktivisten der Zivilgesellschaft, unter ihnen 378 Abgeordnete von 70 Ländern, fordern in einem gemeinsamen Aufruf die Einrichtung einer Parlamentarischen Versammlung bei den Vereinten Nationen (UNPA). Angesichts der Globalisierung muss den Menschen in globalen Angelegenheiten eine stärkere Mitsprache ermöglicht werden, so das Dokument. Der Aufruf ist das Herzstück einer internationalen Kampagne, die mit einer Veranstaltungsserie in über zehn Ländern der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt wird.

Campaign launch: Political leaders and civil society activists call for UNPA

Several hundred political leaders, among them 378 MPs from 70 countries, have joined to call for the establishment of a Parliamentary Assembly at the United Nations (UNPA). The joint appeal states that, in an age of globalization, citizens need to be vested with a stronger voice in global affairs. The call is the core of an international campaign which is being launched through a series of events in more than ten countries.
