Lanzamiento de la Campaña en Vancouver

La rama del The World Federalist Movement en Vancouver, Canadá y la United Nations Association Canadá–Vancouver fueron los anfitriones del movimiento para la creación de una UNPA el 24 de abril de 2007. Esto ocurrió en la sede principal de la Biblioteca Pública de Vancouver. Campaign launch in Vancouver

The World Federalist Movement Canada Vancouver Branch and the United Nations Association Canada–Vancouver hosted the launch of the movement for the creation of a UNPA on April 24 2007. This was at the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library. Panelists were Ian Waddell (former MP, NDP), Simma Holt (former MP Liberal), Adriane Carr (Green Party, Deputy Leader), and Leonard Angel (Professor). The hosts were Blake McLeod for the WFMC-VB, and Patsy George for the UNAC. There was a lively panel for about forty minutes, and vigorous questions and answers afterwards for about the same time period. A variety of media were present, with film, audio, and print coverage. After the panel and question period there was a reception, with lots of active conversation.

Varios líderes políticos, entre ellos 378 Miembros del Parlamento provenientes de 70 países, se han unido para pedir el establecimiento de una Asamblea Parlamentaria en las Naciones Unidas (UNPA, según sus siglas en inglés). En su petición conjunta afirman que, en una era de globalización, los ciudadanos deben contar con mayor voz en las cuestiones globales. Su llamado constituye el núcleo de una campaña internacional lanzada a través de una serie de actos en más de diez países.

Campaign launch: Political leaders and civil society activists call for UNPA

Several hundred political leaders, among them 378 MPs from 70 countries, have joined to call for the establishment of a Parliamentary Assembly at the United Nations (UNPA). The joint appeal states that, in an age of globalization, citizens need to be vested with a stronger voice in global affairs. The call is the core of an international campaign which is being launched through a series of events in more than ten countries.

Campaña presentada en la conferencia de UK International Law Association y UNA UK Bath Branch

Gordon Glass, Director de 2020*Vision Ltd. y representante del Comité de Coordinación Internacional de la Campaña para una Asamblea Parlamentaria en la ONU, presentó un documento sobre la Campaña en la Conferencia de Primavera del British Branch of the International Law Association albergados por Sussex Law School en la Universidad de Sussex los días 20 y 21 de abril de 2007. La idea central en el tema fue la presidida por Jeremy Carver CBE, Presidente del British Branch. El documento fue seguido de un debate en el que se formularon un gran número de preguntas sobre las implicaciones de la propuesta de una UNPA, especialmente en relación al estado de soberanía. El 23 de abril Gordon Glass también realizó una presentación en Bath and District Branch de la Asociación de las Naciones Unidas.

Campaign presented at UK International Law Association conference and UNA UK Bath branch

Gordon Glass, Director of 2020*Vision Ltd. and representative in the international Co-ordinating Committee of the Campaign for a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly, presented a paper on the Campaign to the Spring Conference of the British Branch of the International Law Association hosted by the Sussex Law School at the University of Sussex on 20 and 21 April 2007. The keynote session on the topic was chaired by Jeremy Carver CBE, President of the British Branch. The paper was followed by a discussion which raised a number of questions about the implications of the proposal for a UNPA, especially in relation to state sovereignty. On 23 April Gordon Glass also delivered a presentation to the Bath and District Branch of the United Nations Association.

En reacción a la solicitud de un sistema ampliamente externo en las actividades de los fondos y programas de la ONU, expresado por el Secretario General de la ONU Ban Ki-moon, el Comité por una ONU Democrática ha reiterado la solicitud de una Asamblea Parlamentaria en las Naciones Unidas (UNPA). La prueba pendiente dentro de las actividades de la ONU, una vez más confirma la necesidad de un cuerpo independiente, capaz de registrar las operaciones de la ONU y verificar las alegaciones, tales como las que ahora están en el aire, expresa el Comité. Probe into UN activities confirms need for parliamentary body

Reacting to UN-Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's order for a system wide external inquiry into the activities of UN funds and programmes, the Committee for a Democratic UN has reiterated its call for a UN Parliamentary Assembly. The pending probe into UN activities once again confirms the need for a standing independent body able to scrutinize UN operations and to verify allegations such as those now in the air, says the Committee. U.S. officials had alleged that the UNDP's North Korea operation had been run in violation of UN rules for years.

European Parliament Working Group trata el tema del Parlamento en la ONU

El miércoles, el Grupo de Trabajo de las UE-ONU del Comité de Asuntos Exteriores del Parlamento Europeo trató el tema del establecimiento de una Asamblea Parlamentaria en las Naciones Unidas (UNPA). Ante la invitación del presidente del grupo, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, MPE, el Presidente del Committee for a Democratic UN (KDUN) presentó la propuesta en Estrasburgo. Durante el debate, Miguel Angel Martínez, MPE y Presidente de la Unión Inter-Parlamentaria (IPU) desde 1997 hasta 1999, y actualmente Presidente Honorario de la Unión, enfatizó que la IPU debería ser el punto inicial para crear una UNPA. Sin embargo, Martínez admitió que un "cierto cambio" en la IPU sería necesario. El KDUN también promociona la visión de una UNPA como institución adicional. European Parliament Working Group discusses UN Parliament proposal

On Wednesday the EU-UN Working Group of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament dealt with the issue of the establishment a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA). On the invitation of the group's chairman, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, MEP, the chairman of the Committee for a Democratic UN (KDUN) presented the proposal in Strasbourg. During the discussion, Miguel Angel Martínez, MEP and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) from 1997-1999, and currently Honorary President of the Union, stressed that the IPU should be the starting point to create a UNPA. However, Martínez admitted that "certain change" at the IPU would be necessary. KDUN also promotes the option of a UNPA as additional institution. The European Parliament has repeatedly supported the establishment of a UNPA, last time in a resolution of June 2005.
