A Perugia en Italie, plus de 200 représentants de mouvements populaires, syndicats, réseaux nationaux et internationaux, autorités locales, universités et centres de recherche se sont réunis pour réflécir sur la réforme des Nations Unies. La résolution finale inclut l'appel à créer une Assemblée parlementaire composée de représentants nationaux et régionaux. L'objectif serait de préparer le processus pour un Parlement des Nations Unies élu par les citoyens de tous les Etats membres pour la démocratisation et le renforcement du système de l'ONU.

NGOs in Italy call for more democratic UN

In Perugia, Italy, more than 200 representatives of people's movements, trade unions, national and international networks, local authorities, universities and research centres gathered to discuss the reform of the United Nations. The final resolution includes the call to establish a parliamentary assembly composed of representatives from national and regional parliaments. Its goal would be to prepare the process for a United Nations parliament elected by citizens from all member states, for the democratisation and strengthening of the UN system.

150 Présidents de Parlements se sont réunis à New York à la veille de la Rencontre de haut-niveau des chefs d'Etats et de gouvernements ont adopté une déclaration dans laquelle ils reprennent les actions prises par les parlements depuis leur première conférence en 2000, examinent comment ils peuvent apporter un plus grand soutien à la coopération internationale et aux Nations Unies et aider à combler le vide démocratique dans les relations internationales.

Speakers of Parliaments stress necessity of "parliamentary dimension"

150 Speakers of parliament, gathered in New York on the eve of the High-Level Meeting of Heads of State and Government, adopted a Declaration in which they take stock of action effected by parliaments since their first Conference in 2000, examine how they can provide more support for international cooperation and the United Nations, and help bridge the democracy gap in international relations.

L'Association Suisse-ONU soutient la proposition d'un Parlement à l'ONU

Dans une déclaration adoptée par son Assemblée générale le 30 juin, l'Association suisse ONU a soutenu la proposition de plus de 100 membres du Conseil national suisse dans une lettre ouverte au Secrétaire général de l'ONU, Kofi Annan pour la création d'une Assemblée parlementaire des Nations Unies. L'Association suisse ONU invite ses associations homologues du monde entier et leurs organisations membres internationales à soutenir également cette proposition.

Swiss United Nations Association supports UN Parliament proposal

In a declaration adopted by its General Assembly on June, 30, the United Nations Association of Switzerland has supported the proposal of more than 100 members of the Swiss National Council in an open letter to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to establish a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly. The Swiss UNA invites its fellow United Nations Asssociations in the world and their international umbrella organization to support the proposal as well.

Le Parlement allemand en faveur de la création d'un Parlement au sein du système de l'ONU

Le Parlement allemand estime qu' "il est nésessaire de créer une dimension parlementaire du système des Nations Unies", comme indiqué dans une résolution du 16 juin. Una Assemblée parlementaire sous une forme institutionnelle pourrait être appropriée. Contrairement au Comité pour une ONU démocratique, la résolution assume que l'Union Inter-Parlementaire est le point de départ exclusif pour une telle Assemblée parlementaire.

German Parliament in favour of parliamentary involvement in the UN system

The German Parliament believes "it is necessary to create a parliamentary dimension of the United Nations system", as stated in a resolution of June 16. As institutional form a Parliamentary Assembly could be suitable. Contrary to the Committee for a Democratic UN the resolution assumes that the Inter-Parliamentary Union is the exclusive starting point for such a Parliamentary Assembly.

South Centre soutient une plus grande participation dans le système de l'ONU

Dans un document publié à l'occasion du deuxième Sommet des pays du Sud à Doha du 12 au 16 juin 2005, le South Centre, un "think tank" intergouvernemental de 48 pays soutient une plus grande inclusion des peuples aux Nations Unies : "Une participation plus inclusive dans les délibérations et prises de décisions est une partie indispensable du processus de démocratisation des organisations de l'ONU" (p. 38). Le document reprend la proposition de créer une Assemblée parlementaire à l'ONU.

South Centre supports stronger Participation in the UN-System

In a paper published on the occassion of the Second South Summit in Doha from June 12 to 16, 2005, the South Centre, an intergovernmental think tank of 48 countries, supports a stronger inclusion of the people into the United Nations: "A more inclusive participation in UN deliberations and decision-making is an indispensable part of the process of democratization of the UN organizations" (p. 38). The paper picks up the proposal to establish a Parliamentary Assembly at the UN.
