Discussion at the Trento Festival of Economics

At the Trento Festival of Economics, Italian writer Mario Capanna advocated “for a new form of global democratic governance, including the possibility of a world parliament capable of making strategic decisions for humanity and the planet.” Meaningful political change, he said, will only be possible based on “the recognition that humanity shares one planet and one common destiny.”

Survey suggests renewed support for global cooperation

The Global Solidarity Report 2026 finds renewed support for global citizenship and international cooperation after years of decline. Across 31 countries, more respondents identify as world citizens, support tax contributions to global problem-solving, and back stronger international institutions with enforcement powers. “The public mood is moving and the question is whether internationalists can seize the opportunity”, the report says.

Draft protocol on allocation of seats

As part of the Second Charter project, the Global Governance Forum has published a number of complementary draft protocols. One of them addresses the allocation of seats in the Parliamentary Assembly included in the Second Charter and proposes a distinct formula.

Former Prime Minister Helen Clark “attracted” by a UNPA

An event in New York on 22 September 2025 marked the launch of Article 109, a rebranding of the Coalition for UN Charter reform. Former New Zealand Prime Minister and UN Development Programme Administrator, Helen Clark, noted that she is “attracted by the concept of a formal Parliamentary Assembly” as an outcome of UN Charter reform.
